The National Meeting "Massa 2012" will be held in Palermo from 1^st to 5^th July 2012 on the occasion of 40^th anniversary of institution of the Division of Mass Spectrometry of the Italian Chemical Society (DSM-SCI); it is an international symposium where will be invited all italian experts which work on mass spectrometry field together with several outstanding foreign specialists.

The main goal of DSM, in this forty years, has been the development and widespreading of mass spectrometry knowledge in several fields of scientific and technological interest.

In all these years, strengthening the image of mass spectrometry has been pursued through the organization of courses, the establishment of awards and the organization of various activities and scientific meeting.

Today mass spectrometry techniques are widely used in analytical chemistry, environmental, agrifood, in the field of biochemical, clinical and diagnostic applications.
